Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010)

What I watched: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010)

How I watched: DVD

Dinner: Kale slaw, crackers & brie

225278id1g_HP7_27x40_1Sheet.inddSynopsis: As the Ministry of Magic crumbles and Voldemort’s return ramps up, Harry, Hermione and Ron desperately seek out the remaining horcruxes in order to destroy them.

Why I watched: I’m going to see the sequel in theatres tomorrow and wanted a refresher!

Notes: One of the things I like best about Part 1 is how angsty and emotionally wrought it is. Does it make me emotional at any point? No. But I love to see the interpersonal relationships pushed to the limits and Harry’s abilities as “the chosen one” questioned by those closest to him. I kind of like the road-movie quality of this film as well as the fact that these heroes become outlaws in their world so quickly and how they deal with life on the lam as teens.

Recommend: Yes, but only really if you’ve seen the others. As the penultimate chapter in the franchise it really only works in the context of the other films. In the context of those other films it is one of the hardest working films in laying out the stakes for the war-to-end-all-wars that will take place in the final film.
