Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001)

What I watched: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001)

How I watched: IMAX

Lunch: McChicken, diet coke
evnt54b6fa620072aSynopsis: In the first episode of the franchise, Harry learns he is a wizard, meets his first and future BFFs and muddles through a series of life-threatening misadventures on the school premises which will prepare him for the years to come at Hogwartz School.

Why I watched: I’ve never seen this movie on the big screen before, why not go for broke and see it in IMAX!

Notes: It was neat to see this movie on the big screen. Having previously only seen it on the small screen I hadn’t really considered that in my head it was a child’s movie with small characters. On the big screen it is much more epic. Having seen the rest of the franchise, this film feels a lot more silly, there are a lot more laughs and cute moments than the following films. But also, you see some elements of the wizarding world established in this film that are dropped in the later sequels altogether (like the annual House Cup context which plays a big role in this film).

Recommend: Yes, a great entry into the franchise and a fun family film.
